The Manchester Hackathon

On Saturday 17th November we delivered the first Manchester Hackathon, in partnership with Manchester City Council, Open Data Manchester and MadLab.

There were 16 teams in all, hacking the open data sets released by Manchester City Council and other public sector partners. I’ve been involved with numerous hack day events before (both as an attendee and organiser) but never one as brief as this. It officially started at 9.30am and finished bang on 5pm. The productivity and ideas generated and realised in that time were nothing short of terrifying. For example, here’s a video showing screengrabs every 30 seconds throughout the day:

More on the winners soon, but in the meantime here’s a Guardian article on the day, and a couple of choice snaps.
